About Havaianas
Havaianas was born in 1962 as part of the Alpargatas Group - the largest shoe manufacturer in South America. The iconic flip flops were inspired by the 'Zori,' a typical Japanese sandal made of fabric straps and rice straw soles which led to the textured rice pattern on the foot-bed of all Havaianas.
In the 1990's, Havaianas wearer's started turning the white under sole of the flip flops upside down leaving the coloured sole showing, creating monochrome Havaianas. This idea was officially adopted by the brand in 1994 with the first extension into a new style, Havaianas Top, available in a wide variety of vibrant colours. From then on, a number of innovations followed: different designs and prints, limited series, targeted editions. This strategy gave the brand a totally new dynamic. From a simple rubber flip-flop, a fashion and lifestyle icon was born.
In the early 90s, Havaianas came to global attention, bringing with them a strong Brazilian flavour: simplicity, optimism, positive vibrations, energy and colour.
