Soho Insider: Oceanus Founder Hannah Attalah
Read our interview with the founder of luxury swimwear and resortwear brand Oceanus.
Introduce yourself
Hi, I'm Hannah Attalah and my brand is called Oceanus.
I started my brand in 2017 and it was inspired by Oceanus - the Greek God of River, and vintage glam. I've been collecting vintage from the 70s, 80s, since I was a teenager. So most of my references are of things that I love that are in my archive. And just very statement, the kind of partywear that's evolved from swim to party.
Why did you choose Soho?
Really we were only going to open somewhere iconic and for me, it was between Covent Garden and Soho. A suggestion to move to Newburgh Street was presented and actually, it's ended up being the perfect location for the brand. We might consider another location very soon, but, you know, Soho is just iconic.
Describe Oceanus in 3 words
Authentic, maximalist and unapologetic.
Describe your store collections
You can expect lots of statement swimwear, high waisted bikinis, cute party dresses. Everything is maximalist. We don't really do minimal here. Cute makeup pouches, accessories, and good vibes.
Which are your bestsellers?
The bestsellers, as of last summer, is the Arizona one piece swimsuit, which is still going very strong and went viral. Now have it available in five different colourways.
And the New York co-ord, which is a cute skirt with a crop top .And it also comes in five different colors. And this really inspired our next collection because it's all things under the sea and shells.
What's next for Oceanus?
So we've just dropped our first interiors collection that we did with Poodle and Blonde. We have the second drop coming soon, which includes some really cute wallpapers, fabrics and makeup pouches. I'm really excited about that, it's the first time we've ever designed lamps and put our textiles on.
